The art of the eight limbs. “Eight limbs” refers to the eight weapons in this art form; two hands, two fists, two knees and two feet. Although these weapons appear basic they are the foundation of this proven and effective martial art.
Muay Thai originated in Thailand and it began as a close combat battlefield fighting skill which was considered more deadly than the weapons it replaced.
At Florida Kickboxing Academy we are focused on teaching the traditional aspect and blending it with modern training techniques that can be utilized by everyone whether you are a beginner or a competitor. Some of our training incorporates additional footwork technique, the ability to attack and defend from different angles and the agility and coordination needed for rigorous conditioning.
Our Cardio Kickboxing program was designed with fitness in mind. Its a no-contact class geared towards teaching technique and breaking a sweat! In this class you’ll learn all the proper footwork and boxing techniques real fighters use but instead of practicing on one another you’ll incorporate bag work and pad work.
Each class is accompanied with a circuit style strength and conditioning session to help finish off that calorie burning cardio burst!
If you’re looking for a different type of workout that will burn fat and build your confidence, this class if for you!
Typically most classes are anywhere from 10 - 20 people.
Beginners are encouraged to take our Fundamentals program on Monday, Wednesday, Fridays at 5pm, but if they can’t make that time slot they are welcome to take any of our Mixed Level classes. The only class not available to beginners is our 6pm competition class.
Each class will have a warm up, technical lesson and then application. Depending on the curriculum for the week some classes may be more contact oriented than others.
As long as there are no serious ailments or health issues, everyone is encouraged to start training no matter the fitness level. There are no amounts of workouts you can do to “get ready” for Muay Thai/kickboxing training. It’s a false assumption you have to be in shape to start training.
As many as you can! Our unlimited membership makes it easy to come in and train as much as you want. The more often you come the quicker you pick up the techniques.
At FKA we like students to train with us for a minimum of 1 year before they consider competing. If someone has experience that timeline can be adjusted accordingly.
Currently we accept ages 7 and up.
